Peace is palpable.
While we hit the alarm clock for 5 more minutes of sleep,

The sun in New Hampshire climbs through the trees.
While we stumble downstairs, spilling a cup of coffee,

The moss creeps higher on an old, brick wall.
As we slam the car door and pray we don't need gas,

A frog splashes into Hyla Brook.
(Because we're not around, does he make a sound?)
While we stare at the computer screen, clenching our teeth,

Pine branches whisper by the stream.
And as we pack up our bags, to do it all again,

A dog chases after chestnuts.
Peace, like I said, is palpable. It lives on the land, inviting you in-

To breathe,
And, maybe later, to eat a Reese's Pieces Sundae.
