Early for my interview, I bumped into the Big Boss in the wood-panelled library. He was fresh from Florida, pimped out in a beige suit and held some kind of Cuban cigar. I told him how fantastic it was to see him and he asked if I wanted to smoke outside. Of course I said yes.
So we went out to the park in Mt. Vernon square, and being November, it was pretty chilly. I had on a navy blue dress and strappy heels. As we were walking across the street Big Boss asked me how I liked Key West and I told him I had made some new friends at Sloppy Joe's.
Then he said, "Did you ever hear of such and such movie. It was from the 1970s and starred Gene Hackman... anyway it's about this couple who go out into Central Park and from the viewer's perspective you can't tell if they're formulating a business deal, or if they're having an affair..."
All I could say was, "Oh really?"
Then we sat down at a little table and started talking about the position. A couple minutes into it, Big Boss said, "You're shivering. Here, wear this."
And he took off his suit coat and handed it to me.
The label said "Valentino" and he told me it was "vintage 1979 Valentino."
Being a feminist, I know I should probably be taken aback, but at that moment I thought he was the coolest guy on earth.
So I wore his suit coat for the remainder of the interview. Afterwards I sent him a thank you email, and he wrote back with an offer, saying "It was fun shivering you."
